1O God of my fathers, and Lord of mercy, who have made all things with your word,
1“O God of my ancestors and Lord of mercy, who made all things by your word;
2And ordained man through your wisdom , that he should have dominion over the creatures which you have made ,
2and by your wisdom you formed man, that he should have dominion over the creatures that were made by you,
3And order the world according to equity and righteousness, and execute judgment with an upright heart:
3and rule the world in holiness and righteousness, and execute judgment in uprightness of soul,
4Give me wisdom, that sits by your throne; and reject me not from among your children:
4give me wisdom, her who sits by you on your thrones. Don’t reject me from among your servants,
5For I your servant and son of your handmaid am a feeble person, and of a short time, and too young for the understanding of judgment and laws.
5because I am your servant and the son of your handmaid, a weak and short-lived man, with little power to understand judgment and laws.
6For though a man be never so perfect among the children of men, yet if your wisdom be not with him, he shall be nothing regarded.
6For even if a man is perfect among the sons of men, if the wisdom that comes from you is not with him, he will count for nothing.
7You have chosen me to be a king of your people, and a judge of your sons and daughters:
7You chose me to be king of your people, and a judge for your sons and daughters.
8You have commanded me to build a temple upon your holy mount, and an altar in the city wherein you dwell, a resemblance of the holy tabernacle, which you have prepared from the beginning.
8You gave a command to build a sanctuary on your holy mountain, and an altar in the city where you live, a copy of the holy tent which you prepared from the beginning.
9And wisdom was with you: which knows your works, and was present when you made the world, and knew what was acceptable in your sight, and right in your commandments.
9Wisdom is with you and knows your works, and was present when you were making the world, and understands what is pleasing in your eyes, and what is right according to your commandments.
10O send her out of your holy heavens, and from the throne of your glory, that being present she may labor with me , that I may know what is pleasing to you .
10Send her from the holy heavens, and ask her to come from the throne of your glory, that being present with me she may work, and I may learn what pleases you well.
11For she knows and understands all things , and she shall lead me soberly in my doings, and preserve me in her power.
11For she knows all things and understands, and she will guide me prudently in my actions. She will guard me in her glory.
12So shall my works be acceptable, and then shall I judge your people righteously, and be worthy to sit in my father's seat.
12So my works will be acceptible. I will judge your people righteously, and I will be worthy of my father’s throne.
13For what man is he that can know the counsel of God? or who can think what the will of the Lord is?
13For what man will know the counsel of God? Or who will conceive what the Lord wills?
14For the thoughts of mortal men are miserable, and our devices are but uncertain.
14For the thoughts of mortals are unstable, and our plans are prone to fail.
15For the corruptible body presses down the soul, and the earthy tabernacle weighs down the mind that muses upon many things.
15For a corruptible body weighs down the soul. The earthy tent burdens a mind that is full of cares.
16And hardly do we guess aright at things that are upon earth, and with labor do we find the things that are before us: but the things that are in heaven who has searched out?
16We can hardly guess the things that are on earth, and we find the things that are close at hand with labor; but who has traced out the things that are in the heavens?
17And your counsel who has known, except you give wisdom, and send your Holy Spirit from above?
17Who gained knowledge of your counsel, unless you gave wisdom, and sent your holy spirit from on high?
18For so the ways of them which lived on the earth were reformed, and men were taught the things that are pleasing to you, and were saved through wisdom.
18It was thus that the ways of those who are on earth were corrected, and men were taught the things that are pleasing to you. They were saved through wisdom.”
