1And Balaam said to Balac, Build me here seven altars , and prepare me here seven calves, and seven rams .
1Balaam said to Balak, Build here seven altars for me, and prepare here seven bulls and seven rams for me.
2And Balac did as Balaam told him; and he offered up a calf and a ram on [every] altar.
2Balak did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bull and a ram.
3And Balaam said to Balac, Stand by thy sacrifice, and I will go and see if God will appear to me and meet me, and the word which he shall shew me, I will report to thee. And Balac stood by his sacrifice.
3Balaam said to Balak, Stand by your burnt offering, and I will go. Perhaps Yahweh will come to meet me. Whatever he shows me I will tell you.” He went to a bare height.
4And Balaam went to enquire of God; and he went straight forward, and God appeared to Balaam; and Balaam said to him, I have prepared the seven altars, and have offered a calf and a ram on [every] altar.
4God met Balaam, and he said to him, I have prepared the seven altars, and I have offered up a bull and a ram on every altar.

6And he returned to him, and moreover he stood over his whole-burnt-offerings, and all the princes of Moab with him; and the Spirit of God came upon him.
6He returned to him, and behold, he was standing by his burnt offering, he, and all the princes of Moab.
7And he took up his parable, and said, Balac king of Moab sent for me out of Mesopotamia, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Jacob, and Come, call for a curse for me upon Israel.
7He took up his parable, and said, “From Aram has Balak brought me, the king of Moab from the mountains of the East. Come, curse Jacob for me. Come, defy Israel.
8How can I curse whom the Lord curses not ? or how can I devote whom God devotes not ?
8How shall I curse whom God has not cursed? How shall I defy whom Yahweh has not defied?
9For from the top of the mountains I shall see him, and from the hills I shall observe him: behold, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.
9For from the top of the rocks I see him. From the hills I see him. Behold, it is a people that dwells alone, and shall not be listed among the nations.
10Who has exactly calculated the seed of Jacob, and who shall number the families of Israel? let my soul die with the souls of the righteous, and let my seed be as their seed.
10Who can count the dust of Jacob, or count the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous! Let my last end be like his!”
11And Balac said to Balaam, What hast thou done to me? I called thee to curse my enemies, and behold thou hast greatly blessed [them].
11Balak said to Balaam, What have you done to me? I took you to curse my enemies, and behold, you have blessed them altogether.
12And Balaam said to Balac, Whatsoever the Lord shall put into my mouth, shall I not take heed to speak this?
12He answered and said, “Must I not take heed to speak that which Yahweh puts in my mouth?
13And Balac said to him, Come yet with me to another placewhere thou shalt not see the people, but only thou shalt see a part of them, and shalt not see them all; and curse me them from thence.
13Balak said to him, “Please come with me to another place, where you may see them. You shall see just part of them, and shall not see them all. Curse them from there for me.
14And he took him to a high place of the field to the top of the quarried [rock], and he built there seven altars, and offered a calf and a ram on [every] altar.

16Yahweh met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Return to Balak, and say this.
17And he returned to him: and he also was standing by his whole-burnt-sacrifice, and all the princes of Moab with him; and Balac said to him, What has the Lord spoken?
17He came to him, and behold, he was standing by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. Balak said to him, What has Yahweh spoken?
18And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balac, and hear; hearken as a witness, thou son of Sepphor.
18He took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear! Listen to me, you son of Zippor.
19God is not as man to waver, nor as the son of man to be threatened; shall he say and not perform? shall he speak and not keep [to his word]?
19God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should repent. Has he said, and he won’t do it? Or has he spoken, and he won’t make it good?
20Behold, I have received [commandment] to bless: I will bless, and not turn back.
20Behold, I have received a command to bless. He has blessed, and I can’t reverse it.
21There shall not be trouble in Jacob, neither shall sorrow be seen in Israel: the Lord his God [is] with him, the glories of rulers [are] in him.
21He has not seen iniquity in Jacob. Neither has he seen perverseness in Israel. Yahweh his God is with him. The shout of a king is among them.

23For there is no divination in Jacob, nor enchantment in Israel; in season it shall be told to Jacob and Israel what God shall perform.
23Surely there is no enchantment with Jacob; neither is there any divination with Israel. Now it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, ‘What has God done!’
24Behold, the people shall rise up as a lion's whelp, and shall exalt himself as a lion; he shall not lie down till he have eaten the prey, and he shall drink the blood of the slain.
24Behold, a people rises up as a lioness. As a lion he lifts himself up. He shall not lie down until he eats of the prey, and drinks the blood of the slain.
25And Balac said to Balaam, Neither curse the people at all for me, nor bless them at all.
25Balak said to Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all.
26And Balaam answered and said to Balac, Spoke I not to thee, saying, Whatsoever thing God shall speak to me, that will I do?
26But Balaam answered Balak, “Didn’t I tell you, saying, ‘All that Yahweh speaks, that I must do?
27And Balac said to Balaam, Come [and] I will remove thee to another place, if it shall please God, and curse me them from thence.

4he sayswho hears the oracle of the Mighty One, who saw a vision of God in sleep; his eyes were opened:
4he says, who hears the words of God, who sees the vision of the Almighty, falling down, and having his eyes open:
5How goodly [are] thy habitations, Jacob, and thy tents, Israel!
5How goodly are your tents, Jacob, and your dwellings, Israel!
6as shady groves, and as gardens by a river, and as tents which God pitched, and as cedars by the waters.
6As valleys they are spread out, as gardens by the riverside, as aloes which Yahweh has planted, as cedar trees beside the waters.
7There shall come a man out of his seed, and he shall rule over many nations; and the kingdom of Gog shall be exalted, and his kingdom shall be increased.
7Water shall flow from his buckets. His seed shall be in many waters. His king shall be higher than Agag. His kingdom shall be exalted.
8God led him out of Egypt; he has as it were the glory of a unicorn: he shall consume the nations of his enemies, and he shall drain their marrow, and with his darts he shall shoot through the enemy.
8God brings him out of Egypt. He has as it were the strength of the wild ox. He shall consume the nations his adversaries, shall break their bones in pieces, and pierce them with his arrows.
9He lay down, he rested as a lion, and as a young lion; who shall stir him up? they that bless thee are blessed, and they that curse thee are cursed.
9He couched, he lay down as a lion, as a lioness; who shall rouse him up? Everyone who blesses you is blessed. Everyone who curses you is cursed.
10And Balac was angry with Balaam, and clapped his hands together; and Balac said to Balaam, I called thee to curse my enemy, andbehold thou hast decidedly blessed [him] this third time.
10Balak’s anger burned against Balaam, and he struck his hands together. Balak said to Balaam, I called you to curse my enemies, and, behold, you have altogether blessed them these three times.
11Now therefore flee to thy place: I said, I will honour thee, but now the Lord has deprived thee of glory.
11Therefore, flee to your place, now! I thought to promote you to great honor; but, behold, Yahweh has kept you back from honor.
12And Balaam said to Balac, Did I not speak to thy messengers also whom thou sentest to me, saying,
12Balaam said to Balak, “Didn’t I also tell your messengers whom you sent to me, saying,
13If Balac should give me his house full of silver and gold, I shall not be able to transgress the word of the Lord to make it good or bad by myself; whatsoever things God shall say, them will I speak.
13If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I can’t go beyond Yahweh’s word, to do either good or bad from my own mind. I will say what Yahweh says’?
14And now, behold, I return to my place; come, I will advise thee of what this people shall do to thy people in the last days.
14Now, behold, I go to my people. Come, I will inform you what this people shall do to your people in the latter days.

17I will point to him, but not now; I bless him, but he draws not near: a star shall rise out of Jacob, a man shall spring out of Israel; and shall crush the princes of Moab, and shall spoil all the sons of Seth.
17I see him, but not now. I see him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob. A scepter will rise out of Israel, and shall strike through the corners of Moab, and crush all the sons of Sheth.
18And Edom shall be an inheritance, and Esau his enemyshall be an inheritance [of Israel], and Israel wrought valiantly.
